OVERVIEW

What You’ll Learn

Emergencies can happen anywhere—at work, at home, on the road or in the community. The First Aid course provides participants with the practical skills and knowledge required to recognise and respond to a range of medical emergencies and provide an appropriate first aid response until professional medical assistance arrives.

By completing this course, participants will learn how to:

  • Recognise and assess emergency situations.

  • Apply first aid principles and procedures.

  • Perform CPR on adults, children and infants.

  • Use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

  • Respond to unconscious casualties.

  • Manage choking incidents.

  • Treat bleeding, burns, fractures and soft tissue injuries.

  • Assist people experiencing medical emergencies such as asthma, anaphylaxis, seizures and cardiac events.

  • Communicate effectively with emergency services and other responders.

  • Provide first aid until professional medical assistance arrives.

  • Complete incident reporting and workplace documentation requirements.

  • Be at least 14 years of age.

  • Have sufficient language, literacy, numeracy and communication skills to participate in training and assessment activities – LLND.

  • Be physically capable of performing CPR on the floor for a minimum period as required by the training package assessment requirements.

  • Provide valid identification for enrolment purposes.

  • Hold or obtain a valid Unique Student Identifier (USI) before certification can be issued.
